Vikings seek Favre return to action this season
Brett Favre's streak of consecutive NFL starts has ended, but the Minnesota Vikings hope the veteran quarterback's season isn't over.
The Vikings are out of the playoff chase, but they still need a quarterback for their last three games.
Interim coach Leslie Frazier said Wednesday that 41-year-old Favre is his top choice - and could even return in time for the next game against Chicago.
"I don't see that as being part of the equation at this point," Frazier said. "It looks like there's a chance that we're going to be able to get him back at some point. Hopefully this week."
Favre saw a league-record streak of starting 297 regular-season games come to an end.
Favre, who has played through a bevy of injuries during the streak, said the injury in his throwing shoulder had left him with a numb hand, but Frazier said an ultrasound exam on Favre's neck and shoulder showed no nerve damage.
Favre's backup, Tarvaris Jackson, started in the 21-3 loss to the Giants but left the game twice because of injuries. One of those is a problem with "turf toe" that puts Jackson's availability in doubt.
Meanwhile, Frazier said Favre was improving.
